Overview


All Manitoba pharmacists endeavoring to prescribe the drugs for self-limiting conditions as permitted in Schedule 3 (Subsection 118(2)) to the Manitoba Pharmaceutical Regulations must successfully complete the required training components, as well as apply to the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba and be granted a certificate of authorization. The certificate of authorization would be for either the self-limiting conditions, smoking cessation or both. This program is for a certificate of authorization for self-limiting conditions, though smoking cessation and dual certificates are discussed below.

This program includes required readings, self-assessments, a presentation on safe pharmacist prescribing in Manitoba, and a final summative assessment on the following topics:

  • Effective patient interviewing and assessment
  • Atopic dermatitis, allergic contact dermatitis, irritant contact dermatitis, urticaria
  • Acne vulgaris
  • Tinea pedis
  • Candidal stomatitis
  • Unspecified haemorrhoids without complication
  • Vasomotor and allergic rhinitis
  • Seborrhoeic dermatitis (excluding pediatric)
  • Recurrent oral aphthae
  • Vomiting of pregnancy, unspecified
  • Smoking cessation (*optional)

The self-limiting conditions online program does not include the required education on smoking cessation.

This continuing education program is designed for pharmacists and has been accredited by the College of Pharmacists of Manitoba for a total of 15 CEUs.
